Instructor: Ilka Recker
Originally from Germany, Ilka was first introduced to the Classical Pilates method in 1993. At the time, she was studying at the Rotterdam Dance Academy in the Netherlands. Already captured by the beauty and effectiveness of the method she chose "Pilates - Proprioception" as the topic for her final thesis. After receiving her Bachelor's degree in Dance Education she went on to work as a professional dancer and performing artist. During those years Pilates helped Ilka to stay healthy and injury free. Once she followed her calling to teach dance and educate the next generation of dancers and dance teachers, she realized she wanted to share her Pilates knowledge as well. Truly trusting the original work of Joseph Pilates, she was compelled to follow the path of becoming a Pilates instructor herself. Ilka joined the Power Pilates certification program in New York City in 2007. By completing the Comprehensive Program she became a fully certified Power Pilates Trainer. Ilka is also 'Pilates Method Alliance' (PMA) certified. In 2012 Ilka was invited to become a Vbarre and Power Pilates Teacher Trainer. Ilka is currently teaching at the Power Pilates headquarters in New York City. "I consider the Pilates method a gift for life and I love sharing it."
